Jared Cohn wrote and directed the upcoming Asylum film ‘Bikini Spring Break’. He’s a New York native that’s passionate about filmmaking and has been writer, director, actor, producer and editor. Jared started out with The Asylum back in 2005 acting in ‘Alien Abduction’ a film wrote and directed by Eric Forsberg. I thank Jared for sharing his experience with ‘Bikini Spring Break’ and about himself.
Does writing and directing make your job easier or does it pose more issues when trying to direct your own screenplay?
JARED: Writing and directing is easier than just directing because you know the story more than anyone else. You can read a script 10,000 times and really understand it, but the writer (at least a good writer) should still know it on a higher level/with a deeper understanding.
One thing I’ve learned is The Asylum crew and actors are mostly friendly and laid back. How was your experience filming ‘Bikini Spring Break’?
JARED: Filming ‘BSB’- the cast and crew were typical laid back cool, down to earth Asylum folks. People that roll with The Asylum are usually way cool and passionate about film and not stuck up.
Are you currently focusing more on directing and writing over acting?
JARED: Right now I’m going where the waves take me, I love acting, writing and directing. If the right project comes up then I’ll jump all over it, behind the lens or in front. But seems to be right now, I’m doing more directing- which I am totally cool with.
Can you tell us a little about what you’re currently working on?
JARED: I just wrapped another feature called “you didn’t hold your breath” The Asylums first theatrical release, a cool horror starring Katrina Bowden, Randy Wayne, and Gerald Webb. Was a good shoot, I did my best to make it as cool as possible. I didn’t write it though. Geoff Meade did, based on an original idea by Dr. Kenny Zinn. Also, I have been cast in a thriller, lead role shooting sometime in the next month or so (I believe)
What can we expect to see in ‘Bikini Spring Break’ (besides tons of bikinis)?
JARED: In ‘BSB’ you can expect to see a lot more boobies than bikinis. Haha! Which I hope the audience doesn’t have a problem with. It’s a cool, fun movie. Was a tight schedule so I tried to keep it as fun as possible!
Thanks to all the fans! And The Asylum for being awesome!
Expect to see much more from Jared in the near future and mark your calendars for the ‘Bikini Spring Break’ release on June 26th. In the meantime you can do follow Jared on twitter and check out his websites.
