‘Killers’ was one of Asylum’s first films and was directed by David Latt and ‘Killers 2: The Beast’ was also directed by Mr. Latt. Whatever drugs he was doing back then I want some!
If you sit down and watch ‘Killers’ I highly recommend having some aspirin next to you. There’s a constant pipe banging sound effect that last a majority of the movie. Of course some people may not have notice it, but you will now that I mentioned it.
Now, I’m the last person in the world that should talk about style, but was cut off flannel shirts and a Tom Keifer from Cinderella hair style still in back in the late 90’s? Also when the gang struts around in the beginning I’m waiting for them to break into Journey’s ‘Separate Ways’. Yes I’m stuck in the 80’s shut up!!!
One cool thing is a young Paul Logan is in the film and he’s sporting a ponytail just like I did back then. Hell I could be Paul’s twin. Except the twin that’s fifty pounds heavier, balding and the only fighting I’m good at is playing Rock-em Sock-em Robots.
Paul Bales wrote ‘Killers 2: The Beast’ and this one I have to admit was significantly better than ‘Killers’. In the sequel Heather (Kim Little) who was the sole survivor in ‘Killers’ is trapped in a maximum security insane asylum. After the psychological damage from her experiences in ‘Killers’ she inhabits some F’d up demons in her mind and to make matters worse the gang leader we never saw in ‘Killers’ puts a hit on Heather. There also were some good one liners including “Welcome to Snickers Bar…full of nuts”. I was impressed how there were two anal insertion comments within a minute. One was Emma (Melissa Renee Martin) telling the nurse she’d love the nurse’s fist up her ass and moments later Heather tells the doctor the difference between a tennis ball and grapefruit is one hurts more shoved up your ass. Thank God there were no jackhammers around!
One of my personal favorite scenes was when Emma starts a fight to distract the guards and all the women in the room get into a brawl. At first it scared the living crap out of me since I’m the only male at home and I saw my future when my daughters hit their teen years, but the funny part was when the women are fighting and soft soothing music starts playing in the background.
Kim Little who did a great job in ‘Killers’ put on an even better performance in ‘Killers 2’. She was a bad ass, smart, flirty, and psychotic with some violent moments, especially when she’s slamming her head against a window. I could make a wife joke here, but surprisingly I do value my life.
In the final scene the gang leader that put the hit on Heather goes to the asylum with his men to take care of business since the asylum employees they hired couldn’t finish Heather off. That scene was insane when they walked in heavily armed shooting everyone and everything in sight. SPOILER: Heather survives and drives off into the sunset.
A few things that cracked me up was when the gang leader threatens to kill a suicidal Emma and she responds “Go ahead and kill me I don’t care”. Another was the high pitched girly scream a gang member made when he was shot in both eyes with a tranquilizer gun. Finally, the scene when Heather distracts the guard with a handjob to drug him and then as she escapes she tries several times to push his woody down but it keeps popping up.
These two films are far cry from the disaster and mega films by The Asylum, but you still need to check them out.
