The movie starts off great with a surfer riding a wave caused by ice chunks breaking off a glacier. It gets even better when a massive amount breaks off causing a tidal wave that wipes the surfer out.
Meanwhile, the Titanic II is about to ship off and we meet the owner Hayden Walsh (Shane Van Dyke) with his entourage and one is Erica Duke. When I saw Hayden strut in with the girls I was hoping he’d be thrown overboard early assuming he was a complete douchebag, but as the movie went on I realized he’s actually a good guy. I figured he’ll be the one Amy Maine (Marie Westbrook) will be calling out “Jack…Jack” to.
When it’s evident that the Titanic II will be in trouble I expected it would be similar to the original Titanic disaster with them accidentally running into an iceberg and the ship slowly sinks. Nope, the Titanic II gets the crap kicked out of it from ice and a tsunami.
When the crew is informed they’re in trouble Captain Will Howard (D.C. Douglas) makes an announcement for the passengers to put on life vests. When they show the passengers there’s a guy in the background that has his hands in his sweatshirt pocket. He either wandered into the scene or has a guilty look from ripping something off from the gift shop.
I have to say when the ship is hit by the ice and tsunami, wow that was intense and impressive to watch all the damage and chaos!
With the ship quickly sinking Amy’s father James (Bruce Davison yes thee Bruce Davison) who is the scientist that first warned everyone about the ice breaking off the shelf and the tsunami has to save Amy. Fortunately he has a helicopter and all the necessary equipment to save her, but he just has to get there in time.
Watching Amy and Hayden try to escape was much more realistic than “Titanic I”, because Hayden knows the ship well and can maneuver around obstacles. “Titanic I” was a homeless punk who MIRACULOUSLY knew where to go and what to do.
The ending was fun and tense and Amy even though underwater she comes out of the closet with the help of her dad and everyone lives happily ever after. Well everyone except the thousand passengers that died. BTW, there were two “Jaaack, Jaaaack” moments.
I’m a little confused. Dwayne (Dylan Vox) is the most helpful crew member making sure everyone is okay. Once he sees Amy coming he takes off his coat and runs up to her…why? He was doing a great job with the coat on, it’s freezing out and he takes it off for Amy?
Amy uses Hayden’s credit card to tape onto Kelly’s (Michelle Glavan) wound. I tried really hard to get the number but only saw that it’s a Visa. Wasn’t a gold card so apparently Hayden used all his money to build the ship.
Kelly has the worst luck getting injured, but that’ll end soon. She tries to escape through a small gap in an open fire door. I had a stomach ache all night after that scene.
