When you laugh your ass off watching “18 Year Old Virgin”, “Sex Pot”, and “#1 Cheerleader Camp” more than likely it’s because of Seth Cassell. Seth is a natural at being funny even when he’s not trying to be. It’s one of those gifts that you have to embrace or it’ll drive you insane. Seth isn’t all about joking though he’s quite serious when it comes to his carpentry and music.
I believe it’s more difficult for an actor to make someone laugh than cry. You do a great job making us laugh, did you always know and want to do comedy or did you just fall into it?
SETH: It’s funny you say that, because I find that people find me funny when I being serious. And when I get angry it only makes people laugh more…. but as soon as I start “trying to be funny”…. crickets. Growing up as a kid I would watch movies with Jim Carrey, The Mask is coming to mind. I would watch them so many times I would feel like I was “The Mask.” I have always loved to pretend and have fun, so comedy seemed like a logical choice.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume you’re the one pulling pranks and joking around on set (a little birdy told me). Can you share any funny moments with us while filming?
SETH: Ah yes goofing around, one of my favorite pastimes. Well the movies I make are usually fairly ridiculous on their own, but I remember while filming Cheerleader Camp we got an opportunity to film at a real life Gentlemen’s Club. I remember giving the pole a good run for its money.
According to IMDB you’re an avid carpentry enthusiast and build most of your own furniture and also play guitar, that’s quite impressive! What type of music do you like to play and how can we hear some of your music?
SETH: Yes that is true, I just finished building my bed frame. As far as my music goes I have been very busy lately but if you come by my house at ***** ************ BL. Los Angeles Ca and put your ear up to the window you can hear me playing all the time! If you went looking I’m sure you could find some songs on line but they’re rather old. Probably Youtube would be your best bet.
Is there anyone back in Virginia who you want to taunt by saying look at me in my films with all these gorgeous girls?
SETH: You know I wasn’t the most popular kid in School but holding grudges has never been my thing, I kinda like to live in the moment.
What have been up to recently and are there new films we’ll see you in soon?
SETH: My newest film is called “General Education” I play a 23 year old who has been going to summer school for the past 5 years. I really would recommend this movie to anyone who has enjoyed my past works, but I will warn you now there are less scantily clad women!
Hopefully we’ll see Seth in more Asylum films whether comedy, action, drama or horror. In the meantime even though “General Education” is not an Asylum film you still should check it out as it will be released this June. If you want to hear his music then take Seth’s recommendation and go to ***** BL. Los Angeles and put a glass to the wall or you can periodically check his youtube page for his classics and maybe some new songs in the near future.
